5 hour syndrome

I think Disney is against its future participants getting any sleep. If you have begun the process of applying for Disney you can probably relate to this picture.

There is something about applying to work for Disney that causes college students to not get much sleep. It's an excitement that completely overtakes your brain and you no longer have the ability to control the amount of questions that your brain produces. There is just no way to fathom all the possibilities.

Yet still we try. We research for hours trying to comprehend every facet of the DCP by reading and re-reading every published page on their website, and when that is not enough, we search for more. There are sooooooo many places where you can find information about the DCP online like Youtube, Facebook and former CP's blogs. It is pretty much impossible to get your actual school work done with all these resources around you.

I know its been hard for me. I will get started on an assignment, then just get an itch to take a break. So what consumes my break time you ask?

DCP videos on YouTube of course! And there is no just watching one video. No its more like I watch 10 minimum. I mean they are only like 5 minutes long at the most so it wont take that much time right? Well let me just tell you, those multiple 5 minute videos add up and before you know it, its 2 a.m. and you have to be up for class in 5 hours.

Hence the 5 hours syndrome. Now you can replace the 5 with whatever number it is for you but I think you get the idea. It is really a problem.

So what are we to do? I mean there is just so much Disney content out there to distract us from or studies and make the time we have to wait seam to be forever. Here are a few tips that have worked for me and maybe they will work for you too

#1 - Make a list
Write down the questions running through your head that day and only look for answers to those. Stay on top of your list because as you find more answers you might be tempted to add more questions to the list but you cant.

#2 - Keep record of all the things you find
Save the good websites you come across so you can reference them later. Copy and paste specific answers to questions you find on Facebook in a word document. This way you start creating a list of answers to your questions in a way that is easy to find them.

#3 - SLOW DOWN!!!
If you spend all your time watching videos before you get accepted, you will have a much harder time filling the waiting time between acceptance and the start of your program. Take it slow, limit yourself so that you can continue to occupy your wait time.
